Sun Break Cafe 22 A Street SW
Auburn, WA 98001
CWT's Recommendation!
Well, here it is. My first reader's choice. I have to say, it was definately worth the 80 mph I had to drive to the southside for breakfast. Not suprisingly I woke up late and only had 45 minutes to get ready and make it to Kent. But none the less, I made it.
I met up with my China Star posse and off we headed to Auburn. We got there just early enough so that we didn't have to wait too long. By the time we were seated the line was almost out the door. After tasting some of the food I can see why that line gets so long.
As we were herded to our table, the hostness was already asking us if we wanted coffee. At the table waiting for us was this bowl of assorted flavored coffee creamer. I was able to have a pretend cup of mocha with the chocolate creamer while I scoured the menu for French toast. The first thing I noticed on the menu was the price. Crazy cheap compared to Seattle. Sun Break Cafe has had the cheapest two eggs I've yet to order at $1.10. The second thing I noticed on the menu was the French toast selection. Five different kinds? Oh boy. How was this going to work?
There was the traditional Frenchie. And then there were all the other dressed up Frenchies. Peanut butter, Peanut butter & jelly, strawberry jam & cream cheese and a Monte Carlo sandwich that consisted of ham, turkey, cheese and some ranch dressing. Since I would appear psycho if I ordered a little bit of each one, I settled for something non-traditional and went with the strawberry jam and cream cheese. What appeared before me were two slices of extra thick toast that were the size of my head stuffed with very generous amounts of strawberry jam and cream cheese. Brilliant!
Usually I take my pic before I take my first bite, but when I saw that staggering creation placed before me, my hand went straight to my fork and not my camera. I was a few mouthfuls in before I remembered the picture. Strawberry and cream cheese is not a new food combination for me. That's how I take my bagels sometimes, but I've never tried it before with French toast and it was just as good. There was no need to cover up the flavor with the syrup that was provided. I loved the ooziness with each bite. I've decided that French toast is not breakfast. It's dessert!
I somehow managed to scarf down half of my order and was lucky enough to also get to try a few bites of my posse's order. There was the BLT with avocado omelette that was egg-licious. And I also tasted some chicken fried steak that wasn't your typical probably purchased frozen and deep fried. It tasted so fresh and didn't have that unflattering batter hiding the chicken. I'm definately going to have go back to try some of the other items.
I think I can get use to some more reader's pick. Capital choice CWT!
